Clyde Beatty, lion act (excerpt), at the Clyde Beatty Circus (from the movie Ring Of Fear, directed by James Edward Grant - 1954). Clyde Beatty became a popular circus star through B-series films like Ring Of Fear. This clip illustrates and emphasizes Beatty's style: cats' savage roaring (here mostly added to the sound track and amplified), whip cracking, gun shots, and mutual aggressiveness. Although all this was carefully staged for show, Beatty's style, which was widely publicized, was unfortunately instrumental in building over the years a negative image of circus animal trainers. (1954)
